What is anycast, and why does it matter?

Traditional DNS uses a handful of nameservers — usually one or two physical locations. If your visitor is in Sydney and your nameserver is in Virginia, every domain lookup makes a round trip across the Pacific before your page even starts loading.

Anycast flips that. One IP address is announced from every point-of-presence simultaneously. Your visitor's network automatically routes them to the closest one — Singapore for the Sydney visitor, Amsterdam for the Berlin visitor, Las Vegas for the LA visitor.

The result: DNS lookups in single-digit milliseconds, every time, from anywhere. And if a POP ever goes down, traffic re-routes to the next-nearest one automatically. No DNS provider to call, no failover to configure.
